Four years ago I decided to delete nearly every piece of artwork I’d created up to that point. This meant destroying nearly 400 DVDs and several hard drives worth of client and personal work. Thousands of illustrations and logos and graphical assets and websites and technical drawings and animations and recordings and so on.
It took a long time to get past the emotional connection I had to my stuff. Like so many of us do, I had attached a lot of self-worth to the things I’d done in the past.
Today, however, there is no attachment to the things I create, only the process. It is in creating, not having created, that I find the most value.
Now…where’s my hammer?
